Who actually needs the three-row SUV
Most people renting a car in Knoxville are fine in a sedan — we say that on our own fleet page, and we mean it. The SUV is for the trips where the math stops working: five, six or seven people, or four adults with a week of luggage, or a family that needs car seats plus a stroller plus a cooler and still wants to see out the back window.
The four trips we hear about most:
- A Smokies weekend with the whole family. Cabin in Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge, everybody in one vehicle, nobody following in a second car. Read the honest take on what you actually need for the Smokies before you book — it is people and bags, not four-wheel drive.
- Flying into McGhee Tyson with a group. Six people and six bags do not fit in a midsize. We can meet you at TYS with the SUV already loaded up and running.
- Ballgames, weddings and reunions. UT home weekends, a wedding party running between venues, family in town from three different states. One vehicle, one driver, one parking spot.
- The in-between move. Not a truck job, but too much for a trunk. Fold the third row and the Telluride swallows an apartment's worth of boxes. When it is genuinely a truck job, take the F-150 instead.
What actually fits
Straight numbers, because “spacious” means nothing:
- Seven seats across three rows. The third row is a real seat, not a penalty box — adults can ride back there for an hour to Gatlinburg without complaining.
- About three carry-on bags behind the third row with all seven seats up.
- Fold row three and you have a cargo hold that takes a family of four's luggage plus strollers, coolers and camp chairs.
- 23 MPG combined (20 city / 26 highway). It is a big SUV, so it drinks more than our Accord Hybrid — budget for that if you are doing serious miles.
- Automatic, four doors, rear climate control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Honest advice: if there are four of you or fewer and you are not hauling much, book the Accord Hybrid instead. It is cheaper per day, it is far cheaper on gas over a Smokies week, and it is the most-booked car we own for a reason. The Telluride is worth every dollar when you need the seats — and a waste of them when you don't.

Ours starts at $99 a day on the live calendar. Peak Smokies weekends, October leaf season and UT home games run higher; week-long and monthly bookings cost noticeably less per day. The Turo listing shows the live number for your exact dates.
Do I need an SUV for the Smoky Mountains?
Not for the roads. The routes into Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Cades Cove and Newfound Gap are paved and well maintained, and a normal car handles them without drama. You need the SUV for people and luggage, not traction. In winter, check conditions before heading to higher elevations no matter what you are driving.
Can you deliver it to the airport?
Yes — McGhee Tyson (TYS) delivery is available, along with hotel and cabin delivery around Knoxville and the Smokies. Select delivery when you book.
Do you have a car seat?
We keep a brand-new child safety seat available as an add-on, cleaned between every trip. Add it at checkout or message us before pickup.
What if I'd rather have something smaller?
Then take something smaller — we would rather you book the right vehicle than the biggest one. The full fleet runs from a $64/day Kia Soul up to the SUV, and if you tell us what you are actually doing on the trip we will tell you straight which one to take.
