Questions

Renting a car in Knoxville: the questions we actually get

How much does it cost to rent a car in Knoxville?

Daily rates vary by vehicle and by season — Smoky Mountains peak weekends and summer cost more than a weekday in February. Our current, all-in prices are always live at checkout for each car, with no rental-counter add-ons layered on at pickup.

Do you have a rental counter or an office in Knoxville?

No, and that's the point. Cruise Knoxville Car Rentals is a locally owned operation, not a franchise branch. You book online, we hand off the car at an agreed spot in the Knoxville area or deliver it to you, and you skip the counter line entirely.

Can you deliver a rental car to McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS)?

Yes. We serve McGhee Tyson Airport in Alcoa, about 12 miles south of downtown Knoxville. Delivery to the airport can be arranged when you book, so the car is ready when you land instead of after a shuttle ride and a counter queue.

Is insurance included with the rental?

Every trip is booked direct on this site, and you rent on your own auto insurance — there is no protection plan sold at checkout. Not every personal auto policy covers a rented vehicle, so confirm your coverage with your insurer before you book. Bring your insurance card and licence to pickup and we will check both. Curious how this compares to a counter rental? See Turo vs. the rental counter.

Can I drive the rental into Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and the Great Smoky Mountains?

Yes — that is what most of our guests do. Gatlinburg is roughly an hour from Knoxville and Pigeon Forge a little less (full detail in our Gatlinburg & Pigeon Forge rental guide), and there's no surcharge for taking the car into the national park. The Accord Hybrid is the favorite for that drive because the mountain miles barely touch the fuel budget.

How old do you have to be to rent one of your cars?

Drivers must be 21 or older with a valid US-issued driver's licence and their own auto insurance that covers driving a rented vehicle. You'll see the full requirements at checkout before you confirm.

Do you rent trucks and SUVs, or just cars?

Both, plus a 7-seat SUV. Alongside the fuel-sipping Honda Accord Hybrid, the 2020 Hyundai Elantra and the compact Kia Soul, we rent a 2020 Kia Telluride three-row SUV and a Ford F-150 pickup — useful for a Knoxville move, a hauling job, or a weekend where a trunk simply isn't enough.

How far in advance should I book?

As early as you reasonably can. We run a small, deliberately well-kept fleet rather than a lot full of cars, so summer weekends, UT football Saturdays and Smokies holiday weeks book out first.

Still deciding? See how booking works, browse the full fleet, or read our Knoxville airport rental guide.
