Who rents a car in Knoxville by the month
Almost never a tourist. In our experience it's one of these:
- Travel nurses and contract clinicians. Knoxville is a serious healthcare town — Covenant Health is the region's largest employer, and UT Medical Center and Tennova run contract staff constantly. A 13-week assignment needs a 13-week car, not thirteen weekly rentals.
- Oak Ridge contractors. ORNL and Y-12 each employ thousands, and both pull in specialists on multi-week and multi-month scopes. Oak Ridge is about half an hour from Knoxville, so a Knoxville-based car works fine and the housing options are better.
- Corporate relocations and long onboardings. Someone starting at DENSO, Clayton, TVA or the university who hasn't shipped or bought a car yet, and doesn't want to rush that decision.

Why a monthly rental beats the alternatives
Versus daily rates at a counter
The obvious one: per-day pricing drops meaningfully at weekly and monthly lengths, and you skip the ritual of returning and re-renting every week to chase a rate. You also skip the airport fees, which do not get less annoying the twentieth time you pay them.
Versus a short-term lease
Leases want credit checks, down payments and a commitment measured in years. A month-to-month rental wants your dates. If your assignment extends, you extend; if it ends early, you're not unwinding a contract.
Versus buying a beater
Tempting, and occasionally right. But a $4,000 car bought fast comes with registration, insurance, whatever it needs in month two, and the job of selling it when you leave. A rental has one number and no exit problem.
💡 Fuel is the hidden variable on a long booking. Over a month of real driving, the difference between a hybrid and a thirsty SUV is not small. The Accord Hybrid is our most-booked long-term car for exactly this reason — it quietly gives back a chunk of what the rental costs.
How to set up a long booking
Long bookings are worth a conversation before you click, because availability over a month is a different question than availability over a weekend. The easiest path:
- Message or call us first at (865) 309-4897 with your dates, roughly where you'll be based, and how much you expect to drive.
- We'll tell you honestly what fits — including if the answer is that a different setup serves you better for that length.
- Book the block on Turo and choose a protection plan at checkout. Mileage terms are on the listing; long bookings usually want a look at those before you confirm.
- Extend as you go if the assignment moves. That's normal and easy to handle when you're dealing with a local host rather than a system.
Things worth asking about up front
- Mileage. A commute from Knoxville to Oak Ridge five days a week adds up. Better to size it correctly at the start than to discover it in week six.
- Maintenance during the booking. On a long rental the car will likely need an oil change or a tyre check. We handle that — but let's plan when, rather than improvising.
- Swaps. If your needs change mid-assignment, say from the Soul to the truck, we can often work something out.
- Reimbursement paperwork. If an employer or agency is covering the cost, tell us early so the receipts come out in a form their finance team will accept.

Do you rent to travel nurses and contractors on assignment?
Often. Contract clinicians at UT Medical Center, Covenant Health and Tennova, and specialists on assignment at ORNL or Y-12 in Oak Ridge, are a regular part of our long-term bookings. Tell us your assignment dates and we'll work to the same window.
What about mileage on a long rental?
This is the thing to settle up front. Mileage terms are shown on each listing, and a daily commute — Knoxville to Oak Ridge, for instance — adds up over a month. Tell us how much you expect to drive and we'll size it properly rather than surprise you in week six.
Who handles maintenance during a long booking?
We do. On a booking of a month or more the car will likely need an oil change or a tyre check, and we schedule that around you rather than leaving it to chance.
Can I extend if my assignment runs long?
Usually, yes, and extensions are common. Give us as much notice as you can so we can hold the dates — that's much easier with a local host than with a rental system.
Can my employer or agency be billed?
